TableMate Terms of Service
This document is a draft. Lawyer review is recommended before public launch.
1. About TableMate
TableMate ("the Platform") is a social platform that helps tabletop game enthusiasts in the Sydney metropolitan area, Australia, organise in-person social meetups. "Tabletop games" includes Texas Hold'em, mahjong, Werewolf (Mafia), murder-mystery role-play (jubensha), and board games such as Catan and Avalon — all played as private social activities between friends.
The Platform operates strictly as an information-matching tool. All meetups are created, organised, and attended by users on their own initiative. The Platform does not organise any in-person event itself, does not collect entry fees, buy-ins, prize money, or commissions, and does not guarantee the outcome of any meetup.
2. User Eligibility
- You must be at least 18 years of age.
- You warrant that the registration information you provide (mobile number, email, date of birth, display name) is true and accurate.
- A natural person may hold only one TableMate account.
- Your account may not be transferred, lent, or shared with another person.
2.1 Organisation Accounts
In addition to personal accounts, the Platform supports "Organisation / Club" accounts, intended for:
- University clubs (USYD / UNSW / UTS / MQ and other student organisations)
- Community interest groups and hobbyist communities
- Board-game cafés, jubensha venues, mahjong parlours, and other venue operators
- Event-planning teams
When registering an Organisation account, you act as the administrator-representative of that organisation and warrant that:
- You are genuinely authorised to represent the organisation, and the organisation / club actually exists;
- You are personally at least 18 years of age;
- Events posted by the organisation comply with the same compliance requirements that apply to personal accounts (see Section 3 regarding poker-style activities);
- The Organisation account is not used as the operating entity for any commercial real-money gaming, wagering, or similar regulated activity.
Falsely impersonating another organisation or acting as an unauthorised representative will result in immediate account termination, and the Platform reserves the right to pursue legal remedies. Where an organisation collects venue fees or attendance fees in connection with a posted event, those fees are collected by the organisation directly; the Platform takes no part in such collection.
3. Poker-Style Meetups (Important)
Under the Gaming Machines Act 2001 (NSW) and related New South Wales laws, poker-style activities are lawful only under specific conditions. The Platform allows the posting of poker-style meetups only where they are clearly recreational and meet all of the following:
- All participants are adults (18+).
- The meetup is a strictly private social activity between friends or acquaintances, with no commercial commission, no public ticketing, and no profit-making purpose.
- Any buy-in figure shown (if any) is a reference between participants only. The Platform does not handle any funds; all cash arrangements are made and settled by participants offline among themselves.
When posting a poker-style meetup, the host must tick all three confirmations on the compliance acknowledgement page. The Platform reserves the right to remove any meetup it suspects of breaching the above rules and may co-operate with law-enforcement investigations.
4. User Conduct
You must not:
- Use the Platform to conduct or promote any commercial gambling, casino-style operation, or unlicensed underground gaming venue.
- Post false information (fake meetups, false addresses, false identities).
- Harass, threaten, or discriminate against other users.
- Include sexual, violent, hateful, or drug-related unlawful content in descriptions, chat messages, or reviews.
- Use another person's photograph or name as your avatar or username without permission.
- Use scrapers or automated scripts to extract data from the Platform in bulk.
Breach of any of these rules entitles the Platform to suspend or permanently terminate your account immediately, with no refund of any fees that may have been incurred (if paid features are introduced in the future).
5. Responsible Gaming
To protect users from over-engagement with games of chance, the Platform provides a self-exclusion feature. Once you activate self-exclusion:
- For the period you select (30 / 90 / 365 days), you will be unable to join or create meetups of the corresponding category.
- The exclusion period cannot be lifted early (this is a compliance requirement, consistent with responsible-gaming principles).
6. Content and Intellectual Property
You retain ownership of the content you upload (avatar, profile bio, meetup descriptions, reviews, and similar). You grant the Platform a worldwide, royalty-free, sub-licensable licence to display, cache, and process this content within the App for operational, compliance, and analytics purposes. The Platform retains all rights in its own code, UI design, trademarks, and logos.
7. Third-Party Services
The Platform uses the following third-party services. By using the Platform you accept their respective terms of service:
- Supabase (backend and database; data hosted in the Sydney, Australia region)
- Mapbox (map services)
- Twilio (SMS verification codes, when enabled)
- Apple Push Notification Service / Expo (push notifications)
8. Disclaimer
The Platform operates only as an information-matching tool. Any consequences arising from your in-person attendance at a meetup (including, without limitation, personal injury, loss of property, or disputes) are the responsibility of the participants concerned. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Platform accepts no liability for such consequences.
Hosts should hold meetups on their own private premises and ensure compliance with applicable strata / by-law rules, noise regulations, and fire-safety requirements. Attendees are responsible for assessing the safety of the venue.
9. Termination
You may delete your account at any time via "Settings → Delete Account". The Platform may also terminate your account in cases of serious breach. Your data will be removed from the primary database within 30 days of deletion (irreversible). Some backup data may be retained until it expires naturally, which is at most 90 days later.
10. Changes to These Terms
The Platform reserves the right to amend these Terms of Service at any time. Material changes will be notified to you via in-app notification or email at least 7 days in advance. Continued use of the Platform after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
11. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms of Service are governed by the laws of the State of New South Wales, Australia. Any dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales, without prejudice to any non-excludable rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL).
